Like Samaritans, music can play an important role in helping make a connection and give strength to people struggling to cope. Each artist donated their time because they felt very close to the cause, choosing songs of significant meaning (listen to their stories here: http://www.youtube.com/songstosavealife).
Sophie Ellis-Bextor talking about supporting Samaritans said: “I’m always a big fan of using music to spread happiness. Communication is a huge part in helping people through tough times and music is often a tool for that, I suppose Samaritans is the sort of flip-side of that too.”
Pat, the Director of Belfast branch in Wellesley Avenue said: “We are so thrilled that the artists came together to do this album for us. All the profits raised will help fund our essential 24-hour helpline service to support anyone with nowhere else to turn. We are encouraging the people of Belfast to dig deep and help us support more people in the community who are struggling to cope. Please buy this album and help us to save lives.”
You can order the album on the Songs to Save a Life website www.songstosavealife.com . The album is now available for download from iTunes, Amazon and Play.com.
Every year, Samaritans receives 5 million calls for help – that’s one every 5 seconds and every 60 seconds, the charity answers a call from someone feeling suicidal. Songs to Save a Life is an album that can help Samaritans help others. Find out more about how the album came together here.
